Mu Cang Chai is a really beautiful mountainous region in northwest of Vietnam, locating approximately 280 kilometers from Hanoi. Recently this destination is widely well-known for outstanding terrace fields. when the rice are turning from green to yellow or golden, specially in main harvesting time, thousands of visitors across the country pour to Mu Cang Chai for sightseeing unique landscape. If you have never been to this place, we highly recommend pack your bag for rock and roll, as you will never regret of your time spent there. This is the time when the locals prepare for their new cultivation with new hope for bumber crop. When you actually there, you can also rent motorbikes to explore more about Mu Cang Chai and the surrounding areas, this kind of mean is extremely convenient and flexible for sightseeing, posing photos and enjoying the paddy fields. Regarding renting motorbikes, you can either directly ask for help from your hotel/motel or contact the motorbikes stores Hotels and Motels in Mu Cang Chai If you intend to visit this place at peak times (e.g. in the festival of terrace fields), it will be relatively difficult to reserve a room. In fact, there are not many hotels and guest houses in Mu Cang Chai. Thus, if you only spend only 1 day in Mu Cang Chai, or this is just stop in your journey, you had better rent a room in the surrounding areas, such as Tu Le or Nghia Lo, etc. In order to capture the most magnificent photos of Tu Le field, it is advisable to get to Khau Pha mountain top pass at around 7-9 a.m. (after this period, it may be still sunny but rather dim and misty). Here is our tip for you: You can choose either to sleep the night right in Tu Le, or go 7 kilometers further up to Khau Pha mountain pass where there is system of restaurant-hotel with more than 20 rooms available. Mien Tay hotel, Hotel prices in Nghia Lo range from $10 to $12 / double room. In Tu Le town 7. Hoang Quan motel has drug-leaves bath service, very interesting. Prices from $8 – $10 / double room. 8. Xom Vang motel at beginning of Tu Le toward Nghia Lo – Mu Cang Chai, $12/double room. 9. Chuyen Dung hotel + restaurant is quite famous, $13 – $18 / double room. Foods in the hotel are usually sold out very soon, you have to book in advance. The restaurant is famous for sticky rice and chicken. 10. Pho Nui motel

Travel tips

Mu Cang Chai itinerary for 3 days by bus Day 1: in case travelling by bus start from previous night arrive in Mu Cang Chai late afternoon. It’s also good suggestion that you can choose stay overnight in a little town of  Tu Le, more time resting and enjoy strolling around quiet mountain town, next day slow travel through the pass where is the best terrace field landscape. Day 2: you spend all day to wander on the beautiful terraces, you should rent a motorbike to travel (you can ask your hotel or contact: +8429.6263.064 or +84166.568.4574). The region has most beautiful terraces is La Pan Tan village (bản La Pán Tẩn), where is on the route from Tu Le to Mu Cang Chai. To get there, you can rent a motorbike, or take a motor taxi (hugged vehicle) or bus from Tu Le or Mu Cang Chai to La Pan Tan town. Day 3: catch a bus to back Hanoi. Suggestion travel itineraries by motorbike Motorbike is best choice for rock and roll travel Mu Cang Chai, you can easily travel and stop at anywhere that you feel beautiful. Some highlights spots on the travelling routine: La Pan Tan terraces, Lim Mong valley (thung lũng Lìm Mông), Khau Pha pass (đèo Khau Phạ – the longest pass in Northern Vietnam). Specially, you should deeply go into La Pan Tan area. On the route, there’s a small trail run along valley, turn into that trail and more deeply go, you can take extreme unique photos (i found this place according to guidance of a H’mong guy). Itinerary 1 (2.5 day): Day 1: start from Hanoi, riding through Trung Ha bridge, Thanh Son, Thu Cuc pass Van Chan arrival to to Nghia Lo, here use to called Muong Lo basin (Nghĩa Lộ – a town on the route Hanoi-Mu Cang Chai) from Hanoi (190km or 120miles). You should start soon because night travelling by motorbike is not safe. Day 2: Explore the beauties in Khau Pha pass, Lim Mong valley, La Pan Tan then take overnight in Mu Cang Chai town. Day 3: strolling to visit few rest places and back to Hanoi soon. Suggestion itinerary 2 (3 day): First day: go straight to Mu Cang Chai. Rest time of the day, you explore Lim Mong valley and Khau Pha pass. Overnight in Mu Cang Chai. Second day: Daytime, exploring La Pan Tan village. Evening, resting in Nghia Lo town, remember to try specialty snake near Mien Tay hotel. Third day: Morning, you can go to Suoi Giang (Suối Giàng). Afternoon, start backing Hanoi.
